This course will enable learners to carry out a literature search at a basic level, on databases such as Medline and Cinahl.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the session you will be familiar with:

  • The different databases available
  • The principles of constructing a search strategy
  • Combining search terms
  • Printing and saving results
  • Accessing retrieved articles

Pre-course requirements:

All participants must:

  • Have a Novell login.

  • Using natural and subject heading search strategies

  • Have some experience of using the healthcare databases.

This course will give an introduction to the concept of Systematic Reviews. Learners will also be enabled to construct a research question and carry out a sensitive literature search.
